“Subversive, ethical, ecological, political, humorous… this is how I see my duty as a designer” – Philippe Starck

Born in Paris in January 1949, Philippe Starck began his design career in the 1980s. Initially carving out a name for himself within industrial design, it wasn’t long until his output expanded to include architecture, domestic appliances, office equipment, accessories, glassware, vehicles, food, and – of course – luxury lighting.

Throughout all his work, Starck has permeated one enduring vision: creation must improve the lives of as many people as possible. Whether it’s through function, purpose, inspiration, humour, or something else entirely, the Parisian designer strives to make products that will better the lives of those who use them – and they should be accessible to anyone who wants them.

“No one has to be a genius, but everyone has to participate” – Philippe Starck

Each of his products is designed with a determinism to change the world (even if just a little), an enthusiasm for imagining new lifestyles, and an awareness of the products ethical implications. Defending the intelligence of usefulness and the usefulness of intelligence, Starcks designs are unmistakably iconic.

Pushing the limits and criteria of contemporary design, Philippe Starck is an artist of the highest order, bringing his vision to life so you can share in it to the use that best suits you.
