New York City’s annual celebration of luxury lighting, design, and creation, NYCxDESIGN is an event that continues to attract hundreds of thousands of attendees and designers from all across the globe. This year doesn’t look to be any different.
Running from today (11th May) until May 23rd, NCYxDESIGN is an event with a simple purpose: to celebrate the world of design. NYCxDESIGN achieves this through showcases of over a dozen different disciplines, including exhibitions, installations, trade shows, panels, product launches, open studios, and much more besides.
NYCxDESIGN is its own world to get lost in, with events taking place across each of the city’s five boroughs – much like the artistic nature of the design the event celebrates, the event itself can be found everywhere.
The event is brought to life by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), who work in conjunction with a steering committee made up of leading members of New York City’s design community, to present an event that is as exciting and unique as it is informative and revealing.
A collaborative platform rife with cultural and commercial opportunities, NYCxDESIGN strives to elevate both established and emerging design practices, as well as increasing the awareness of and appreciation for design for not just the industry, but all audiences.
Everybody is welcome to this annual event, both residents and visitors alike, domestic and international. NYCxDESIGN is an open invite to experience the vibrant and thriving design scene that New York City has to offer.
One brand that make their presence felt at NYCxDESIGN year upon year is Lladro. Every year the brand take one of their most iconic sculptures – The Guest – and recreate an exclusive version especially for the event. These unique creations are given as a prize to the winners of the annual NYCxDESIGN Awards.
First conceived by Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon, Lladró Atelier’s uniquely captivating character known as The Guest has represented creativity and collaboration, inviting cutting-edge artists from around the world to design distinctive personalities for the porcelain character.
Famed fashion designer Paul Smith, Japanese studio Devilrobots, French illustrator Rolito, and American creatives Gary Baseman and Tim Biskup have all created versions of The Guest that reflect their own charm and individuality.
Fittingly, custom versions of this symbol for creativity and innovation are designed each year for the revered NYCxDESIGN Awards. Presented by Interior Design magazine and ICFF, these awards are truly one of a kind.
The NYCxDESIGN awards are geared towards celebrating outstanding talent across major areas of design such as architecture, interiors, furnishings, lighting, technology, and beyond. This is a celebration of inspiration, of innovation, of design, and of creation at its most admired.
The awards ceremony itself, taking place towards the end of the annual NYCxDESIGN event, unify the more than 500 events that take place during New York City’s showcase of global design. Inspired by NYCxDESIGN Awards’s signature colour, Lladró artists and technicians at the brand’s workshops in Spain develop a version of their character that represents everything that the event stands to represent, awarded in over 30 exciting categories.
