Wherever you do for a living, Friday is often a celebrated day in the working week: the weekend is almost here, at last! For those in the luxury lighting industry, today is more of a celebration than most, and the reason is simple.
Today marks the opening day of the prestigious and increasingly popular NYCxDesign event. New York City’s annual celebration of design and creation, this is an event that continues to attract hundreds of thousands of attendees and designers from all across the globe. This year doesn’t look to be any different.
Running from today (11th May) until May 23rd, NCYxDESIGN is an event with a simple purpose: to celebrate the world of design. NYCxDESIGN achieves this through showcases of over a dozen different disciplines, including exhibitions, installations, trade shows, panels, product launches, open studios, and much more besides.
NYCxDESIGN is its own world to get lost in, with events taking place across each of the city’s five boroughs – much like the artistic nature of the design the event celebrates, the event itself can be found everywhere.
The event is brought to life by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), who work in conjunction with a steering committee made up of leading members of New York City’s design community, to present an event that is as exciting and unique as it is informative and revealing.
A collaborative platform rife with cultural and commercial opportunities, NYCxDESIGN strives to elevate both established and emerging design practices, as well as increasing the awareness of and appreciation for design for not just the industry, but all audiences.
Everybody is welcome to this annual event, both residents and visitors alike, domestic and international. NYCxDESIGN is an open invite to experience the vibrant and thriving design scene that New York City has to offer.
Most of the events that take place throughout the duration of NYCxDESIGN are even free to enter – yet another reason to pay a visit to the celebrated occasion. The events that are ticketed are managed by either the hosts or the organising venues, so it’s worth checking the listing and contact details for any event you’re interested in before you head out to attend.
With more than 150 different events taking place over the course of NYCxDESIGN’s duration, there’s everything on offer across New York City over the next week and a half. The luxury lighting industry will have all eyes on the occasion, a sure place to witness the lighting industry evolving as they watch, finding the freshest in inspirations brought to life with the most artisanal grace.
Every year NYCxDESIGN serves as more than an opportunity to present and celebrate designs and their designers, but also as an occasion to highlight the unique creative, cultural, educational, and economic opportunities in the city.
Of course, it’s not just New York City that offers a vibrant tapestry of creatives such as this. This is, however, their change to show it off to an audience that continues to grow. No doubt the designs they celebrate will continue to be the subject of discussion well into next year’s event.
