Some of the most popular lighting designs are born in fusing together notes of classical design with contemporary influences. Lighting giants Masiero Lighting have unveiled what is perhaps one of their most cultural designs yet.
The Kirk light takes inspiration from the Starship Enterprise as seen on popular science fiction television show Star Trek. Taking its name from the vessel’s captain James T. Kirk (portrayed by William Shatner), the Kirk light is a potent mix of tradition and trend.
The Enterprise’s mission was “to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.” Created to reflect this vision, the Kirk light breaks boundaries in lighting design.
The round lampshade of painted metal is triggered by a handmade diffuser made from Murano glass. This material originates from Murano in Venice. The district has for centuries been home to some of the world’s most talented glass artists.
Designed by Manuel Vivian, the unique texture of this glass refracts the light in a distinctive way. This provides a wholesome and unique illumination for any interior setting.
The light is made to suit any location, classic or contemporary. The Kirk light’s minimalist nature and elegant white structure is equipped with modern, dimmable LED technology. This further embodies the cutting edge and futuristic nature of the design.
With an energy efficient and long lasting illumination, the Kirk light is a part of Masiero Lighting’s Ecleticca series. The collection is famed for its modern take on traditional aesthetics.
