Beneath The Shade: Astro Lighting's Social Corporate Responsibility

Posted on June 30 2017

Founded by John Fearon and James Bassant in 1997, Astro Lighting was born out of a shared passion for a commitment to British luxury lighting design. These are products designed and constructed with an affinity for and expertise in quality and precision.

Astro Lighting recognise the importance of supporting the world that surrounds them as the company continues to grow. They place a keen focus on how they can build the pillars of their social responsibility programme. This is achieved threefold.

The company recognise their impact on the world around them and take steps to ensure that they continue to act sustainably as a business. Astro Lighting have removed the need for non biodegradable materials (such as tape or polystyrene) in their packaging, instead using recyclable materials. Numerous recycling points can be found throughout their HQ and offices, while employees are actively encouraged to invest in more sustainable methods of transport and an electric charging point is available for use by staff and visitors in the company car park.

Working in partnership with a range of different organisations that seek to enhance the well being of others, Astro Lighting support people both near and far. The company work with Streets2Homes to support homeless individuals and those at risk from becoming homeless in the local area through fundraising activities and events. Through a partnership with Parndon Mill they display local art, and support the Harlow Gibberd Gallery with their Art Means Business initiative. The company also work with Knights Templar sixth form and Sheffield Hallam University final year Product Design students to provide students with guidance.

Of course, if Astro don't take care of their own then how are they to give back to others? The brand believe that experience in the workplace equips school leaver and graduates with invaluable knowledge and skills, so offer apprenticeships, university placements, and work experience opportunities across different business functions. Astro are always on the look out for different ways to give back to their team. Every week they offer a bowl of fresh fruit and look forwards to the delicious soup kitchen they run every months. It's these little touches that show appreciation for hard work, and a positive working environment is what helps drive creativity and progress.
