With its iconic design, Twiggy is one of Foscarini‘s most popular products. At a recent installation – ‘Reality Or Illusion: Giants Is A State Of Mind’ – the brand showcased a super-sized version of the design. Recently revealed as one of the honorees for the inaugural NYCxDESIGN Awards, the colossal product is already gaining acclaim across the industry.
Twice As Twiggy began gaining acclaim in New York through Foscarini’s Twice Light project. Over the duration of NY Design week in 2015, a scaled version of the Twiggy lamp appeared in public spaces. The Marc Sadler designed product appeared everywhere from Soho, through Central Park, to Coney Island. The aim of the project? To unite strangers in the city that never sleeps.
Photographer Gianluca Vassallo invited anyone who stopped by the lamp to take part. They asked pairs to stare into each others eyes without talking. As the awkwardness of the moment faded, they then took photos of the moment both strangers began to relax.
This series of photos feature some of the most instantly recognizable locations. Throughout these photos Twice As Twiggy is the only constant. The lamp is portrayed as synonymous with the quality in which it was created. In these photos the light illuminates the space and the moment in which two complete strangers start to connect.
These photos are now able to view as an exhibition in Spazio Soho in New York. Showcasing more than 120 different shots from more than 120 different meetings under the characteristic arch of Twice As Twiggy.
