LED Floor Lamp FAQs

iLite's LED Floor Lamps

LED Floor lamps are, without doubt, highly effective home décor equipment. When well-placed, these versatile tall lights can add a new dimension to the interior of your room. Move them around whenever you need, and just with a switch you can illuminate dark corners, emphasise a piece of art or add warmth and charm to the entire space - you will be amazed at the transformation you can do with very little effort!

All our light fixtures are LED as this type of lighting offers the most energy-efficient and high-impact illumination. You can enjoy full-spectrum lighting and also benefit from less eye strains.

LEDs produce far less heat and offer much longer lifespan compared to traditional bulbs. Their general life expectancy is about 50,000 hours, so if you use your lights for 10 hours a day, your LED should last 13.7 years!

Make a statement with a lava, arco or sinistra floor lamp, or keep it simple with a streamlined standing lamp model. Our shaded options provide diffused background light, angled spots give adjustable highlight, and styles with multiple heads direct light exactly where you want it. Capture a feeling of industrial chic with funky shapes and exposed bulbs, or create a striking focal point in your room with a contemporary, sculptural model.

Consider additional features like dimmers, footswitches and bulb flexibility for versatility and user-friendliness.

Light up your world! Whatever style you prefer, you'll find a lamp you love in our wide selection.

1. What kind of LED floor lamp gives the most light?

Uplight LED lamps are the brightest. They are designed to bounce the light up to the ceiling as well as all around. Look for one with a frosted white shade or solid colour shade which will direct the light upwards. Any of our lava, starburst or equatore models will give this effect.

If the Uplight models don't go with your room style, you can look for floor lamps with white fabric shades which diffuse a lot of bright light or consider a multi-headed lamp which offers pure wattage and the ability to direct light in many directions, like our Leonard lamp. Try an adjustable focus lighting full of style, like our beloved funk collection; the downward-facing lighting makes it perfect for reading or desk work.

In terms of brightness, the function and look you want to achieve will dictate how much wattage you need. For example, if you are trying to light up a room, you need a higher wattage. If the floor lamp is functioning as a reading or task light, you only need around 8 to 12 watts - on a led bulb - to light your page.

2. What are LED floor lamps used for?

Floor lamps aren't just a practical option to light a dim space or your page while reading; they can further the aesthetic of the room and be a design focal point. Depending on the type of light and shade used, you can cast different effects - Uplights will bounce light off the ceiling brightening the space and making it look bigger. If the light has a silk or linen shade, it will diffuse light beautifully, while a metal shade can direct light for a specific moment or task in the room. Aesthetically, a standing floor lamp can add verticality, scale and a sculptural quality to any room.

The flexibility that comes from having different types and styles of lighting in a room adds to the experience and visual interest in the room. Floor lights are portable - this may seem obvious, but whilst you may buy a floor lamp for one space, if you change the decor or function of your rooms, it can be moved with ease!

3. Where should a LED floor lamp be placed in the living room?

The right spot to place a floor lamp depends on the type of lamp you have and your lighting needs.

Directional task lighting

Consider having it above or behind a sofa, armchair or table. This way, the lamp doesn’t get in your way while providing the light you need.

Up-or down-lighting

These are generally best placed in a corner. This way, the light reflects on the walls and spreads throughout the room. Also remember that floor lamps are easily moved around, which is great if you're re-furnishing or if you need it somewhere else.

Arc lamps

Be sure to position them in corners, so anyone taking a seat doesn’t bump their head!

Smaller floor lamps

These are easier to place along walls or the edges of furniture.

Tip: When shopping for your new floor lamp, keep in mind where your available electrical outlets are, as well as the layout of your furniture. Avoid stringing the electrical cord across the room — it can become a tripping and fire hazard and make your space look odd and unfinished.

4. How tall should my LED floor lamp be?

Most LED floor lamps are designed to be suitable for use next to an average height table or seat. Ideally, they should be between 145-160cm in overall height.

For determining height, consider where your light will be placed in the room and what you want it to accomplish, plus the size of your furniture. A reading light shouldn’t extend too far up from the seating area, whereas a light intended to help brighten a large corner or small room will need to be a bit taller to cast light wider. You also don’t want large, bulky lamps if it will overpower your furniture or be in the way of everyday traffic!

Also, take into account your ceiling heights. If you have lofty ceilings, a shorter floor lamp will look lost, and a tall lamp in a low ceiling room will draw your eye to the awkwardly small gap between the lamp and the ceiling!
